Here's a thought - if names can be changed by them being flagged for being offensive, would it be possible to buy an upgrade like this in the store and have an account flagged in a similar way so that there's a change appearance button when the user selects a character?

I really don't see how those concepts are related, Elinora.

Name changes will NEVER happen. Too easy for hackers and bots.

I didn't say they would. Nor do I think it's a good idea. That wasn't my point at all (particularly given this whole thread is about appearance changes).
Lemme spell it out a bit more. If someone has an offensive name, it can be flagged as being offensive and the person will have to change it when they log on next (if I understand the process correctly as I've never had an offensive name so haven't had to do it myself).
Therefore, it's *already possible* to change an aspect of the character from the login screen area. So what if you could purchase an *appearance change* from the ingame store that would flag the account as being able to change the appearance of a character in a similiar way? It's something that works far more easily in with what the code is already capable of (whereas an NPC in game really is just a disaster in terms of implimentation). There'd be a change button available, pick a character, click change, the character is loaded into the character creation screen, make your change, the new values overwrite the old ones in the database (similar to character creation, but not creating a new character as the name has to stay the same obviously), bam, you have an altered character.
The trick comes in with the fact that I'm sure people would want to check out the possiblities on a number of characters before committing one, as opposed to a bad name flag which applies to one character, which is I suppose the potential sticking point. Then again, there could be worse things than having to pick a specific character to do the change on (many people have a specific character that they really hate an aspect of).
The one lousy point I'd be concerned about is cross chapter options - this would fit in great to change to something from the same chapter as the character is from, but I'm pretty sure that people would want to be able to mix and match (for instance, it's not likely I'd choose any hairstyles within any of the chapters that my characters were created in, but would be interested in using one from a different chapter).
No idea if it would work or not, but I like putting out food for thought (although chances are if this would work, devs have already thought about it).

Developing this feature has a cost for A.net and especially in this period they always cry they have no resources, since everyone in A.net from the CEO to the doorman is currently spending every single second of his/her working day focused on GW2.
Anyway this is a lack of business attitude.
If I was the sw house I would develop the feature and sell in the store let's say for 5$ a one time key that allows the buyer to change one of his character appearance/sex/name.
In my opinion, revenues would be much higher than the investment.
Frankly, I hate people who want everything and more for free. If I want something because I think I need (or enjoy in this case because it's a videogame), I prefer to pay rather than whine because no one hands it to me for free.

I'm personally happy to pay for stuff. Something like this isn't a need in order to play the game, so in my opinion it wouldn't be a big deal to charge for it. However, it doesn't look like we'll probably be seeing this any time soon. http://gw.onlinewelten.com/gallery,p..._21_10_07.html
Gaile says in there "No plans for a hair stylist." And yes, I'm quoting the chat directly from the screenshot (rather than playing the Gaile said but I can't show you where game ).
Now, no plans doesn't mean no plans will develop, but I won't be holding my breath (and that way, I'm less likely to be let down ).

Appearance change isn't going to happen.
Heck.... further changes to the game short of the occasional stupid minipet addition ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN.
Hard Mode for GW:EN is the last thing we'll ever get.

I have just stopped caring about this subject.
Just one more thing that has the potential to piss me off and thus contributing to me not buying any further parts in the Guild Wars saga.
I mean - if they refuse to give us what we want - we'll just get it somewhere else.

You go and do that, come back us in a few years and tell us how much money you've placed monthly for a game that gives you that access. We will all be eager to hear of your report to us!

She did, on either this one or another one but the people here on our forum do not understand that this will not be implicated during this part of GuildWars.
If players want to run off to another game that has this and spend a monthly fee that (I do believe I have posted rough stats on this thread) will cost more money in the long run, be our guest.

I tend to agree with those who say never, since anet is more worried about getting gw2 out than keeping us happy until then-----but I have been wrong before (like once).

Bump.
And I don't buy that it would take a serious amount of effort to implement this in the game. Could be done by a competent dev in an hour at most.
And frankly, if they want to take the money from GW:EN and then ignore GW1 in favour of developing GW2, that's a really really crummy decision of Anet to make.
